The important thing about this article is that it is part of a page dedicated to schools, children and fundraising. We consider this as chess in the mainstream of schools and education as seen by the newspaper and not just as a 'Geek' pass time. We will put the whole of the page on line if we secure permission to do so. For the readers from the USA we have to explain that Geek here has a totally different meaning to that in the United States. For our readers here, a Geek in the USA is someone who is passionate about something without going completely off the rails, basically.
Emma is often expected to be a Geek and is called that by some people. She doesn't mind the people who call her Geek, in a few years they will call her boss.
As education is taking a U Turn in the UK right now we are going to dedicate a page to Home Schooling. Home education was under serious threat from the last government but it appears freedom to choose is back again.
Chess in IRAN is reported by our friend FM Arash Akbarinia. Arash won £300 1st prize in the rapid play Thoughtsport organised in 2007 when he was a student in Sheffield. Chess In Iran This photograph with Arash was taken at York rapid play. We often took Arash to the events around the city and Yorks. We think of him with fondness.

Deepest sorrow.
Emma yesterday attended the funeral of Phil Ford at Grenoside Sheffield. Phil was a home educator and was well known to Emma through the Sheffield Home Education group. He had played chess with Emma and given advice on chess to Emma many times. Phil passed away suddenly. He is sadly missed and will always be remembered. Our thoughts are with his family.

Three International newspapers pick up the story of Emma's day and Chess match with Dr Walayat Choudry MBE.
Made in England - The Memoirs of Dr Choudry Mohammed Walayat MBE
Honoured by the Queen, but crucially honoured and appreciated by our community. Personally I have been proud to have known Choudry and his family. His mission to make the world a better place is reflected in the activities that he has engaged in and encouraged his own family to be involved in. As an elected member of City Council from 1986-98, he was able to bring his humour, his experiences and his contacts across the community to bear in the interests of the city as a whole. :- Forward from The Right Honourable David Blunkett M.P.

Whilst the UK was freezing, Emma was cruising the Caribbean. Starting from Barbados and through the Panama Canal.
Emma is currently very busy studying for her science degree and deserved a couple of weeks in the sun. So, what better than organising a chess get together for P&O on their Caribbean Cruise Liner MV Oceana.
P&O - MV Oceana. Cruise Chess Club hosted by Emma.
Some very strong players arrived at the Yacht & Compass lounge aboard the Luxury Liner to join in the Chess get together with Emma Bentley.

Above :- Emma playing Pete Collins, President of Lichfield Chess Club. Pete is the Captain of the Lichfield first team and with an unbeaten record this season. This was Pete's fourth time on the Oceana and states this cruise was first time Chess had ever been offered on the cruise. Farmer Andrew Morgan from Scotland states it certainly made his cruise more enjoyable. The Chess was organised by Emma with P&O last year and she intends to make it a regular feature.
Anyone interested in joining a Chess Cruise next winter please Contact Emma as special rates may be negotiated.

Chess prodigy Emma Bentley made all the right moves when she won the U11 All England Gold Championship. Emma claimed the crown at Nottingham when she competed against the country's most talented girl players. The triumph followed on from last year's success in the same competition at U10 level. Emma (11), from Wingerworth, began playing chess three years ago and has come along way since she first competed in the Woodseats Cup in Sheffield. Last year she flew to the USA and won the World Open Girls U11 Championship at the prestigious Las Vegas Chess Festival.
Emma competes regularly in the Four Nations Chess League as a
member of the Poisoned Pawns team. Academically, Emma is also extremely
talented. A home schooled student , she has just taken her mathematics GCSE,
five years ahead of schedule and now is taking a science degree.
There
was more success for Emma last weekend when a late call-up saw her make her home
debut for the England U18s in the Faber Cup against Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Emma drew her four matches in the under 18's as England won the
trophy.
The full article contains 188 words and appears in Derbyshire Times newspaper. Emma is Home Schooled and is now writing for a science degree.
